Lillian Bassman: Lingerie
I cannot wait to go see Lillian Bassman Lingerie at the Staley-Wise Gallery downtown. Lillian Bassman was a photographer in the 50s and 60s and created images for some iconic ad campaigns, as well as the intimate black-and-white photographs in the exhibition (and the book). The photographs were nearly lost when she decided to leave the fashion business and stashed away the negatives in her basement. Then, 20 years later the photos were rediscovered and she was persuaded to start shooting again. She started putting the photographs together for a book and was still busy with the photographs until just two months before she passed away in at 94 in February. "Lillian Bassman: Lingerie" will run April 12 through May 26 at the Staley-Wise Gallery in New York City.
