Packing, Packing, Packing

{ image via my Pinterest }

I'm getting ready to leave the USA for 2 months! Let me tell you, this is not an easy packing trip. Today I fly home to Amsterdam for two weeks. July 1st I start a two week Fashion Industry course in Paris, then returning to Amsterdam, and then sailing in Greece for a week in August. Doesn't sound terrible does it? However, I will miss my lovely friends and NYC (I've very much fallen back in love with this city recently). To anyone else travelling soon: Bon Voyage!

Happy Weekend!

It's Friday! I'm escaping the city tomorrow to go to Connecticut to a.) renew my driver's license (boo) and b.) visit my old hometown and see my lovely friends (yay). We're planning on spending the afternoon at the beach and I cannot wait to get into true summer mode. Sunday I'll be taking advantage of my last weekend in New York City for 2 months! Crazy how quick time goes .... have a fantastic summer weekend everyone!

John Derian's Cape Escape

I came across this story on designer John Derian's weekend cape cod house in Bon Appetit Magazine. Every since I scrolled through the pictures and recipes I cannot keep the idea of a weekend trip to the Cape out of my head! The old sea captain's 1789 house has a feel of antique bohemian style and seaside summer comfort. Guests describe the house as "magical" with weekends full of spontaneous adventures, delicious food, and evening board games. Think fresh flowers in every room, candles, and vintage water glasses ....

HOW TO DECORATE LIKE DERIAN

* Throw a coat of white paint on floors and wood paneling. Imperfections are welcome!

* Go ahead and mix various styles of tableware, but keep the color unified.

* To get as much light into rooms as possible, hang mirrors so they reflect opposite windows.

* Add something green or blooming--like cut flowers, a potted geranium, or a single leafy branch--to every room.

* Hang art everywhere, high and low. Skip the symmetry.
